Handling A Feral Cat

Nobody explains in the world today how to trap a cat via word of mouth. Thankfully for social media you can find it just about everywhere. Depending where you live and especially the climate. Cats both domesticated, and feral are everywhere. I have seen some areas where there were absolutely no feral cats which was completely odd since it was a really nice area. That I will more than likely never live in since I rescue cats.

Overall there was this one feral unlike all the other ferals I have trapped. This one was pissed off. There are different ways of trapping a feral depends on the approved trap of your City Code. This video was recorded by San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition: volunteer Feral Cat Presenter.  How to trap a feral cat. Thanks to covid shutting everything down. 😑

The feral I trapped is a tuxedo cat that had injuries to its face and ears. I wanted to make sure 'it' was caught and received the medical attention asap. So I used the appointment application that was created to help transition things smoothly for the new covid protocols by City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. I am impressed of how they changed the entrance, last time I was there I was looking to adopt my service puppy in training for myself this was over a year ago. Before the public would use the main gate to enter onto the property. Now is an open main building right next to it, it was there before but I never understood how it worked. I do like how they're really trying to change their not just the appearances of how things should run. Despite the huge negative impact on their intake of cats for the year 2020, statistics released by Best Friends Animal Society. To their standards, ACS is a No Kill Shelter but to Texas especially San Antonio, they are considered a kill shelter.

To clarify the live release rate. It has to reach over 90% to be declared a No Kill Shelter, even though Euthanasia does take place due to medical, behavioral or lack of space. So to compare the numbers 6,058 minus the 5,029 that leaves 1,029 euthanized from one of those three reasons. San Antonio both citizens and rescuers considers ACS a kill shelter. I describe it as a low kill shelter for cats vs dogs since its higher. Everyone wants to see those numbers changed over time and one day it will.

Now how to handle a feral cat, for safety reasons if you are trapping that stray or feral cat. Keep it covered with a towel over the trap. They like dark places to feel safe. The video I have taken the first part is a week a part before the trapping and after.

This cat probably is a female. I listed presumably as male since its big and was heavy to lift the trap from point A-Z. I need to make sure it wasn't a huge ringworm issue. And it can cause problems to delay surgery. I don't really have a name for it... going between two face or scar face. This cat was given to Animal Care Services to be treated for that issue and to be fixed and released back to its natural territory. And more than likely this cat will stalk me with the its you expression. After a cat is trapped it's not going to want to come back, its best to have it stay in the trap until it's fixed so the whole process doesn't become a difficult one. The last part of the video, I decided to invest in a light that served 3 different purposes a laser pointer, flashlight and a blue light (to detect fungal things such as ringworm, it should glow bright but in this case it did not). Cat Interactive Toy 3 in 1 you can find this just about everywhere even different kinds but this is the one I specifically purchased on facebook.
